I started sewing as a young girl. I took lessons at the sewing machine store in our local mall (Evergreen Mall in Evergreen Park, IL). My mother bought a new Singer with a cabinet and I used it more than she did. Maybe that was her plan all along, as I was a bit of a wild child.
As a young woman and mother my sewing was mostly limited to Halloween costumes for my daughter. Hubby and I both worked and I somehow didn't make the time I 'shoulda, coulda, woulda'. I started making custom jewelry during those middle years, which I also enjoyed.
Now that I'm semi-retired, I have reawakened my passion for sewing. It started with the birth of my first granddaughter when I made a blanket for her. I sew mostly flannel and fleece. I make blankets, baby toys, burp cloths, and napkins. I have just started place mats and table runners.
